We are convinced that sound environmental and energy management has a positive effect on the performance of the company. The following projects highlight our commitment to these principles.

Re-use of Waste Sand

We have upgraded our internal sand reclamation to enable us to process all our moulding sand. The hopper pictured above was installed in 1999 so that the excess sand could be sent for reuse, rather than to landfill. This project has reduced our dependence on landfill by about 90% and significantly reduced our sand disposal costs.

Energy Efficiency

We are members of Target 2010, the foundry industry sector negotiating body for climate change levy rebate. As members of this body we are contractually committed to reducing our energy consumption by 11% over the next ten years.

To meet this commitment we have installed a new gas fired ladle heater which we believe will achieve a 20% reduction in total energy usage.

The control panel also has the latest flame failure equipment to give safe operation of the system.

We are pleased to announce that we have met our targets for energy reduction for the first target period.
